| Not sure where you're going with this, but a person who earns $1M will pay the same amount as a person who makes $106,800 (the cap in 2009). They will both receive the same benefits. A person who earns less than $106,800 will pay less and receive lower benefits. |

I have given a lot of thought to this issue. I am a Christian and am opposed to same-sex marriage, but I am also an American, and I value the over-riding principle of liberty this country was founded upon. As a liberty loving American I cannot, in good conscience, force people to adhere to my religious beliefs, nor do I expect them to do so of their own accord. If the government isn't going to get out of the marriage business altogether, (by changing all marriages to "legal unions") then anyone who wishes to be married to another person cannot have that right infringed upon. We are a nation of laws, and the 14th Amendment guarantees equal protection, which includes marriage w/o distinction to the race/gender of the couple.

I don't do a lot of political art, but that's the one piece I did inspired by my opposition to the war.In that piece, titled "blood stained liberty", the figure in the center represents the spirit of liberty. She's shackled to the bodies of dead American Soldiers and Iraqis. She's strong, but she's strained by the weight of the atrocities carried out in her name, and the blood is seeping up her dress. The world trade center represents that tragedy, while the All-Seeing Eye represents the mystery still surrounding it.I love America, and that's while I feel so strongly about opposing our foreign invasions which I feel are destroying what America represents. The image is not Anti-American. Liberty is strong and dignified, but also in turmoil. The flag is majestic, but also singed by the fires of war, and terms like liberty and freedom have been cheapened by their frivolous misuse in the marketing Bush's invasions.You may have been sarcastic, but the piece, while anti-war, is very much pro America..
And make sure Hillary doesn't open her mouth.!

Not sure why darkened is getting dugged down. While the FDA has its faults, the mandated testing is responsible for high drug prices. Today, most drugs cost over a billion dollars to place on the market (In the early 90s, it was around 350 million). As one can imagine, with this price tag, drug companies aren't going to invest much into drugs that effect minority populations (this is why there are many tax breaks and essentially free money for companies willing to look at neglected diseases). We also got to remember that FDA testing is incredibly rigorous and shouldn't be mocked. For example, by today's standards, penicillin would likely not be approved by the FDA if it was discovered today. Thus, when people discuss drugs pulled from the market, that does not mean they have no pharmaceutical benefits or they are more harmful than the disease. Some of these drugs have re-entered the market after the unevaluated-risks have been accessed. Of course, there are examples of the FDA showing little competence (Phen-Phen for one), but these are rare.If anything, the FDA standards are too strong. |
