I hate to rain on your parade, but rape convictions are abysmal. Only 39% of rapes are reported to the police, of those 51% result in an arrest, of those 80% lead to prosecution, of those 58% are convicted, of those 69% receive jail time as a punishment. That means only about 6% of rapists serve jail time as a result of conviction, or about 1 in 16.The court of public opinion is vaguely aware of the discrepancy between rapes and convictions so we try to compensate by taking it out on everyone who is accused.
