Good enough!
There has to be something done to counter hardcore youth gangs. They are like the old mafia but more plentiful and more widespread and more violent. And the gangs are for life too.

Most sensible explanation I've read on this so far has been that what Murdoch is actually doing is convincing competitors to do what Murdoch 'plans' on doing, ahead of him. Meanwhile the effort involved in getting Murdoch's online editions of papers to not be indexed on Google will reach stumbling block after stumbling block. All the while the 'competition' which got it 'right' loosed market share, advertising revenue (lifeblood of the papers) and either 'folds' or is bought by Murdoch.Yes, I know that all it takes is a robots.txt file with a command to not follow any links on the page. I'm pretty sure Murdoch does as well, which is why the above explanation is the only one that seems to make sense.I'm not saying I like this idea, just that I think Murdoch knows that for general interest newspapers ad revenue is based on people who are interested in the story enough to go beyond the through the newspaper machine window view of the paper.?
The X-38 got me thinking several years back... what exactly are the minimum requirements for an astronaut surviving a de-orbit?Basically a deorbiter is a heat shield with a lot of instrumentation. Other than protection from heat, there's no actual need for it to be enclosed if an astronaut had a space suit. Would it be possible for instance for an astronaut in a space suit and a small MMU to return to earth with a large open shield strapped to their back? If you didn't really care if you landed with accuracy, could parachute to the ground like Gagarin, but merely wanted to make sure your trajectory was accurate enough not to come in too hard to burn up.(I know this is a pretty ridiculous question, but thought it might be worth asking) |

Great concept, but there's a few problems.- Very limited safety buffer. Mechanical failure or human-inspired miscues would be very dangerous- Mixing "free-roaming" cars with these "car trains" means the intentionally distracted drivers in the car trains would not be in a position to quickly react. e.g. A truck tire tread comes flying at you, a drunk driver swerves into you, or a deer/animal runs into the road.- Perception of mistakes made by computers vs humans. It may be that humans have a likelihood of 1% to get into an accident while the computer makes mistakes that cause .01% (made these up). The first accident caused by the computer that could have been avoided had the human been driving would be tougher to accept despite the odds being greatly in its favor. That number would have to be 0% to be acceptable, and 0% is impossible to achieve.

Am I being dugg-down for proposing that people make peace by *relating* to each other? Now *that's* confusing.
